Metal-Induced Oxidative Stress and Cellular Signaling Alteration in Animals

Contamination by heavy metals has attracted increasing attention considering the ability of these elements in producing serious consequence to ecosystem, and especially on animals health. Due to their widespread use in human activities such as industry, agriculture and even as medicine (e.g. arsenic, selenium and platinum), numerous health risks may be associated with exposure to these substanc...

The oxidative stress response: a proteomic view

Running title : proteomics of oxidative stress Abstract The oxidative stress response is characterized by various effects on a range of biological molecules. When examined at the protein level, both expression levels and protein modifications are altered by oxidative stress. While these effects have been studied in the past by classical biochemical methods, the recent onset of proteomics method...

Oxidative stress response: a proteomic view.

The oxidative stress response is characterized by various effects on a range of biologic molecules. When examined at the protein level, both expression levels and protein modifications are altered by oxidative stress. While these effects have been studied in the past by classic biochemical methods, the recent onset of proteomics methods has allowed the oxidative stress response to be studied on...

Rutin reduces oxidative stress in animals with renovascular hypertension

Methods Twenty-four rats were divided into 4 groups: sham + saline, sham + rutin, 2K1C + saline and 2K1C + rutin. Six weeks after 2K1C surgery, animals presented hypertension compared to the control group (142 ± 2 mmHg versus 121 ± 2 mmHg, n = 8, p <0.05), while there was no change in heart rate. After six weeks, animals were treated with saline or rutin (30 mg/kg/day) by gavage for 14 days. Th...

Molecular and structural antioxidant defenses against oxidative stress in animals.

In this review, it is our aim 1) to describe the high diversity in molecular and structural antioxidant defenses against oxidative stress in animals, 2) to extend the traditional concept of antioxidant to other structural and functional factors affecting the "whole" organism, 3) to incorporate, when supportable by evidence, mechanisms into models of life-history trade-offs and maternal/epigenet...
